Nail care filler post
Hmm, so I’m trying to grow my nails a bit and resist the urge to cut them short at the first sight of flakage. I will probably never go to the same lengths (pun intended) as Helen and Diana, as lovely though their nails look it would not be practical for the work I do or the ways I spend my spare time. However, I like they way they look when they are a bit longer than usual, and I have a few occasions next week and the week after where long glammy nails would be nice. So this is how I’ve been trying to make them last:
A good hand and nail cream - in this case Superdrug’s, the one in the pink tube - applied when remembered during the day and in a larger quantity last thing at night.
A decent diet and vitamins - this is helped by the fact that I’ve just been given a whole lot of crushed hemp seeds!
Cooler washing-up water - still warm enough to get stuff clean, but not hot enough to damage nails
Nail hardener on the tips. I use Barry M’s 3-in-1 base, top and hardener for this and also under/over other nail varnishes. I only use it on the tips most of the time, thus allowing the newer bits of nail to breathe. On the tips it does a lot of good stuff - hardens the exposed bits of nail, glues flaky bits down, protects the more fragile parts from the elements and dishwater/bathwater, and also creates a buffer against scrapes. For this reason I put an extra coat on my ring fingers, since these take more of a battering - usually getting jammed between computer keys, a case in point having happened a second ago!
On a different note, I bought my first Sleek product - a double-ender with a gold liquid eyeliner and a black mascara. I will review it once I get over my disappointment that the mazzy bit was black rather than gold - and will also include the solution I may have found…
